How much of what I call "myself" have I actually examined?

03

FREEDOM

What can freedom mean when I cannot control everything?

04

RELATION

Can I be close to another person without turning them into an extension of myself?

05

EDUCATION

Can education teach us to think rather than merely teach us what others have thought?

06

WORLD

What becomes invisible when society teaches us to call it normal?

THE PERSON BEHIND EPHILO

Dr Ioannis S. Christodoulou

Philosopher · author · translator · university teacher

EPHILO grew out of a body of work that treats philosophy not as a storehouse of ideas, but as a practice of judgement, self-knowledge, education and everyday life.

His work moves between ancient philosophy and contemporary experience, theory and literature, teaching and reflective practice. From this continuing work grew EPHILO and the School of Calm Thought.

Reading opens doors. Understanding changes the way we live.

No. And even if I had, that wouldn't make me wise.

EPHILO LIBRARY

Why these books?

Because each work examines, through a different form and at a different scale, the moment when something — an impression, a word, a self-image, a desire, an authority, a relationship, an institution, a collective identity or a historical condition — risks acquiring more authority over our judgement and action than it can justify.

Theory formulates the problem · the history of philosophy tests it · literature makes it experiential · public writing examines it through events · practice returns it to everyday life.

EPHILO · MINI PHOTO THEATRE

What do you do with a book after reading it?

Reading ends. Reflection continues.

Did anything in it make you question yourself?
