EPHILO REFLECTIVE LIVING
EPHILO Reflective Circle
Live Philosophy for Reflective Living
A question may begin in solitude and continue through dialogue.
The EPHILO Reflective Circle is a developing programme of live online philosophical meetings led by contemporary Greek philosopher Dr Ioannis S. Christodoulou.
Each meeting begins with a carefully defined philosophical question and connects original books, reflective practices and disciplined conversation.
From private reflection to living dialogue.
What Is the Reflective Circle?
The EPHILO Reflective Circle is a live philosophical meeting for readers and participants who wish to examine a question beyond the limits of solitary reflection.
It is not a lecture followed by a few questions.
It is not an unstructured conversation in which every opinion is treated as equally examined.
It is a guided space for:
- identifying the question beneath an immediate problem;
- distinguishing facts, interpretations, values and fears;
- listening without preparing an automatic reply;
- relating personal experience to philosophical ideas;
- returning to books and reflective practices;
- and developing more responsible personal judgement.
The purpose is not to impose agreement.
The purpose is to make clearer thought and more attentive dialogue possible.
How a Reflective Circle Meeting Works
Step 1 — The Question
Each meeting is organised around one central philosophical question.
Step 2 — The Source
A short passage, concept or distinction is drawn from the published work of Dr Ioannis S. Christodoulou.
Step 3 — The First Reflection
Participants are given time to write, speak, map possible responses or remain briefly with the question.
Step 4 — The Dialogue
The group examines distinctions, interpretations and implications through moderated philosophical conversation.
Step 5 — The Continuation
Participants leave with a question, reading path or reflective practice through which the dialogue may continue.

Questions We May Examine
Future meetings may address questions such as:
- What becomes visible when we do not respond immediately?
- What does it mean to know oneself?
- When does guidance support another person's judgement, and when does it replace it?
- How much freedom remains within conditions we did not choose?
- What belongs to tonight, and what belongs to tomorrow?
- Which values are actually visible in the way we live?
- Can a relationship continue within us after it has ended outside us?
- What is the difference between endurance and unnecessary continuation?
- How can philosophical reading enter ordinary life?
The exact theme, date, language and registration conditions of each meeting will be announced separately.
Rooted in Original Philosophical Work
The Reflective Circle does not begin with generic discussion topics.
Its questions arise from the published philosophical and literary corpus of Dr Ioannis S. Christodoulou and from the reflective practices developed through EPHILO Reflective Living.
Meetings may connect with works including:
- I Think
- Philosophical Self-Knowledge
- Philosophy Is…
- Philosophy for Education
- Spinoza's Free Man
- Education and Moral Progress in the Philosophy of Epictetus
- Moments of Paradise
- The Calm Thought Journal
Who May Find It Valuable?
The EPHILO Reflective Circle may be suitable for:
- readers of philosophy and literature;
- users of EPHILO journals and reflective practices;
- educators and students;
- people seeking a more disciplined form of dialogue;
- readers who wish to connect philosophical ideas with daily experience;
- and participants willing to listen, question and revise an initial judgement.

Principles of the Reflective Circle
Attention
Listen to understand the question and the other person's meaning.
Distinction
Separate observation, interpretation, desire, fear and judgement.
Respect
Disagreement does not justify humiliation, hostility or personal attack.
Brevity
Allow sufficient room for other voices.
Confidentiality
Do not share another participant's personal contribution outside the meeting without explicit permission.
Responsibility
Speak from your own judgement without claiming authority over another person's life.
Openness
Be willing to leave with a better question rather than a premature conclusion.
Philosophical Dialogue, Not Therapy
The EPHILO Reflective Circle provides philosophical and educational dialogue.
It is not:
- psychotherapy;
- psychological counselling;
- medical or psychiatric care;
- crisis or emergency support;
- legal or financial advice;
- life coaching;
- or a substitute for professional care.
Participants should not use the meeting to disclose detailed medical histories, diagnoses or information requiring clinical, legal or emergency intervention.
The purpose is not to make decisions on behalf of a participant.
It is to support clearer distinctions, deeper reading and more responsible personal judgement.

Continue the Question Through Dialogue
A journal may begin the reflection.
A book may deepen it.
Dialogue may reveal what solitary thought has not yet seen.
