THINKING

How do I know whether I am really thinking?

We have opinions, explanations, convictions and answers. But having a thought is not yet the same as examining it. The THINKING path explores what happens when we interrupt the authority of the first answer and create enough space to question, distinguish, examine and revise.

THE FIRST DISTINCTION

Having an opinion is not yet the same as thinking.

Think of one conviction you rarely question. Then ask:

  • What do I actually know?
  • What am I interpreting?
  • What have I simply repeated?
  • What evidence would make me reconsider?

You have just entered the EPHILO Method.

THE METHOD

THE EPHILO METHOD

A simple structure for a more deliberate mind.

1

PAUSE

DISTINGUISH

Separate what has been confused.

3

EXAMINE

4

CHOOSE

Act according to the clearest judgement presently available.
